For a school project in my Year 2 Conceptual Imaging module, we were tasked to create a set of graphics in what the year 2145 would look like.
With technology developing faster than ever, people have started to feel uncertain about the future. Technology that seemed to be fictional has now become a reality. My concept was to parody Horror B-movie posters from the 1950s as a style, as horror movies from that era were reactionary to the societal fears of their times (nuclear war, alien invasions due to the space race, etc.). Concepts for the posters were inspired by actual technological advancements.
Biohacking group, Science for the Masses, have created night vision eye drops in 2015. I pondered if in 2145 when the accessibility of these eye drops increased, would society abuse such a technology to aid them in warfare or criminal activity.
In a world first, Swedish doctors were able to wire a prosthetic hand directly into a woman’s nerves. In 2145, I wondered if people would choose to have prosthetics for cosmetic reasons instead of reconstructive purposes. The tagline of this fictional movie is “How much humanity remains” and if a person was still human if their entire being was made out of prosthetics.
